Artist Of The Month: Igbobinna Eze

About The Artist

Igbobinna Eze 🌀 (b.2000) is a Nigerian artist born in Nsukka, Enugu State. He is a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he majored in painting. His work is deeply influenced by his childhood experiences with local culture, including masquerades and folk tales. Eze draws inspiration from traditional Igbo art forms, particularly Uli and Nsibidi symbols, connecting with the legacy of the Nsukka Art School. His latest series, “Nwauli”, explores themes of childhood innocence, femininity, and motherhood through a style he calls ‘Ulyrism’—a lyrical approach to Uli design. Eze has exhibited locally and internationally, and received the Gerald Chukwuma Prize for a Burgeoning Creative Painter in 2023.
